Young Buyers View Economy in a Positive Light

The latest Home Index Survey released by PulteGroup, Inc. is showing that young home buyers are looking at the economy in an increasingly positive manner. More than 1,000 individuals were surveyed with 41 percent agreeing the economy is better off and 33 percent agreeing the economy is the same as it was this time last year.  In addition, Millennial respondents are showing high confidence with 74 percent stating that now is a good time to buy things they want or need, homes included.

Jim Zeumer, VP of corporate communications for PulteGroup, states that “This is definitely a change, as Millennials have regularly been viewed as the disenfranchised generation vastly affected by the fallout of the recession. But now, with an increased sense of optimism, this generation is starting to feel as though they have the resources available to lead the lives they want or expect in the future.”

The outlook is bright, with 85 percent of the Millennials surveyed saying that they plan to purchase a home in the future. A staggering 49 percent would like to make this move within the next two years. Statements Millennials are currently associating owning a home with are “happiness”, “independence”, and achievement. This generation also looks at owning a home as a financial investment for their future.
